It’s Real Life is back

After some maternity leave, I’m pleased to be able to bring you It’s Real Life once again. It’s Real Life is a blog photo fest in which you take pictures of assigned parts of your real life without staging the area, primping or cleaning or picking up. This week’s assignment is “How I Roll”.

Let’s see pictures of your bicycle, your limo, your metropass or your minivan. Got a My Kid’s an Honor Roll Student at Humperdink High bumper sticker? Let’s see it. Do you sport a suction cup Garfield in your back window? Take a picture of that. Do you keep your favorite CD’s in your vehicle? What are they? Do you stash a pair of shoes and a bra in the van because you’re always late for the car pool? Let’s see it. Petrified fries from a Happy Meal last summer? Rocks from your kid’s last visit to the playground? So many dropped raisins and cheerios you could make snack mix from the floor of your car? Let’s see it!

Be ready Thursday! You’ll come back here and grab the It’s Real Life Badge code to post on your blog, sign up with Mr. Linky and we’ll all see How You Roll.

See you Thursday!

Here is the It’s Real Life badge and the code to copy which will put it on your post. The badge will appear on your page and will link back here to the fest. This week’s theme is Momentous Occasion.

I am the biggest loser. I didn’t realize until five minutes ago that tomorrow is Thursday! So I rushed up to my scrapbook room which houses my wedding albums and scrapbooks to try and get some pictures of our wedding.

This day was the most wonderful day. I never looked or felt better. I was walking into the life I’d dreamed of with the best man in the world, ready to start a new chapter. So in love. Everything was perfect.

These pictures don’t even begin to do this day justice, but I had to take them without a flash because otherwise the flash obliterated the image in the book.

You can click on each image to enlarge it, but it probably won’t help much. I hope you all are having better luck.

Without further ado, our “I do’s” (and some surrounding events).

I didn’t realize this assignment would be so hard! But I guess that’s Real Life for ya.

Click on Mr Linky to add your link.

If you would be so kind, please put your name and blog name in the first box and then in the second box, link directly to your post, instead of to your whole blog. To do this, publish your post, click on the title, copy (control + C) the address that comes up, including the http part.

For example I would put:
Your name: Jessica at Farm Fresh
Your url: http://farmfreshiowa.blogspot.com/2008/07/its-real-life-09.html

***Our wedding was 29 November 2002. We had silver and red as our colors, and sort of a Christmas theme. The mink was on loan from a friend, so I had to return it, which was too bad, because did I ever feel glamorous wearing it!***

It’s Real Life assignment

Real Life has been interfering with my online world. Last I checked, I have 126 unread posts in my Google reader, and I don’t even have everyone I read in there yet. I haven’t checked my email in several days. Getting up that post this morning was quite an ordeal because my ‘puter isn’t behaving itself and this chair makes me have Braxton-Hicks. I haven’t even gotten a chance to visit all the It’s Real Life posts from last week!

So. I was going to point everyone in Rachel’s direction for Wordless Wednesday with a Twist : theme: SUMMERTIME!, but her real life has also gotten in the way, what with moving across an ocean with two small and darling children and all, so she postponed her fest ’til next week.

Anyway, all the rambling to say, we’re skipping next week here at Farm Fresh & I want to see your Summertime photos over at Rachel’s next week. Remember that. NEXT WEEK, we’re meeting over at Rachel’s.

So what about this week you ask? Ok, here’s what we’re doing…

I was intrigued by how so many of us had Momentous Occasion pictures in our bedrooms in last week’s It’s Real Life, I want to see more! I kept trying to enlarge the photos, but too many of you foiled my nosiness.

So now you have to break out the graduation photos, the first kiss memories, the new baby snapshots or the wedding scrapbook–whatever Momentous Occasion that’s been part of your Real Life. Scan it, copy it, photograph it, commemorate it, write about it–Share It. I’ll see you Thursday here–bright & early, coffee in hand, to walk through your Momentous Occasion with you! (Let me see the detail!)

And I’ll try not to mess up the code this time.

It’s Real Life

**To the first 10 people who signed up with Mr. Linky–I had the badge code in the little box wrong. It’s fixed now though, so if you read this you could edit your post if you want. Sorry about that! Technical genius I’m not!**

<a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://farmfreshiowa.blogspot.com/2008/07/its-real-life_03.html”><img style=”margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;” src=”http://myfarmfreshiowa.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/its-real-life-badge-2.jpg” alt=”” id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213109061808712450″ border=”0″ /></a>

Here is the It’s Real Life badge and the code to copy which will put it on your post. The badge will appear on your page and will link back here to the fest. This week’s theme is Where the Magic Happens–our bedrooms.

For me, at 9 months pregnant, it’s magic to get a full night’s sleep!

If you want to read these, I guess you’ll have to click on each picture to enlarge it. My apologies. My idea didn’t work out as well as I would have hoped.

It’s Real Life Assignment

All right ladies–Week three of It’s Real Life was inspired by several of you–some of you to your credit already showed off some of the goods, and some of you said we couldn’t pay you enough to show it.

This week’s assignment is Where the Magic Happens -That’s right, your bedroom.

I’ll leave the implementation up to you, but here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Under the bed
  • What’s in and on your dresser
  • What’s on your night table
  • The pictures/decorations
  • What you love about it
  • What you hate about it
  • What makes it uniquely you
  • What you sleep in (let’s keep it G ;-))

Let’s see what is behind that usually closed door on Thursday! Remember, no staging the area–we want to see Real Life, dust bunnies and all!

Curb Appeal: Here’s our house from the road. Pay no attention to the five gallon bucket holding the front door closed, or the crab grass landscaping. Our house is old (built in 1850, kitchen addition in 1901) and has its issues, but it’s filled with love.

This is my junk drawer. I prefer to call it “the drawer next to the refrigerator”. Do you need tape? Here ya go. Pretty much any variety of marker? Got that too. Motivational sticker? Check. Calculator? Clip? Tape measure? Sticky note? Recipe card? Paper punch? You’ll find it all right here!
My absolute favorite jewelry. Notice where it isn’t. My finger. Which is so swollen right now, I couldn’t even get my bigger sized jewelry off tonight.
From whence I blog: We can close this armoire which is handy for company, and small children. Notice all the sticky notes–lists of funny things Aviana has said recently (a future post), verses, prayers, quotes, a letter to Dear Annie about how a wife’s office is her home and both parents should clock out at the same time, the babies don’t keep poem that Mrs Hub talked about in this awesome post, books I need to add to my list…Also you may see DVD’s, a slipper, a stuffed animal, Baby C’s ultrasound picture, a magazine or two, plus miscellaneous items…need a bobby pin or a screw?

I need to say–I love that picture of the girls in the wagon (which hides a lot more junk and Kevin’s printer he uses exclusively for check writing –and I use it when mine runs out of color ink –shh, don’t tell)
My best feature: I thought long and hard about this; is it my hair (Clairol Light Auburn), my shapely ankles, my outie belly button, the peach fuzz on my chin?

Finally, I decided my best feature is my laugh. That presents another problem…how in the world can you hear my laugh, naturally? I had my mom tape me watching this absolutely hilarious video; it makes me laugh every single ding dong time I watch it. The girls’ antics didn’t hurt either. (If you decide to watch the video at the youtube link, know that it isn’t exactly appropriate for children, but it went over the heads of my children.)

Click on Mr Linky to add your link. I’m sure he’ll be well behaved. If you would be so kind, please post your name and blog name and then link directly to your post, instead of to your whole blog.

For example I would put:

Now, I’m comin’ to your house, I’m comin’ to your house, I’m comin’ to your house…Ready or not, Here I come! Can’t wait!

It’s Real Life Fest

So are you ready for It’s Real Life on Thursday?

Here’s what you do:
To participate you simply to take pictures at any given time of some things around your house. The catch is you can’t primp, prink or otherwise prepare the area to make it seem better than it is.

Now I know some of you wouldn’t have to do that anyway–but that is why it’s called “It’s Real Life.”

Here’s your list:

  • curb appeal (yep, a picture of your home from the outside)
  • junk drawer
  • from whence you blog
  • favorite jewelry
  • your best feature
  • (Now, no whining or complaining about ‘your best feature’–I know you all have more than one. I was so saddened that so many of you made derogatory remarks about your looks for the self portrait. Shame shame. You are all beautiful. Honest.)

I’ll have the badge code and Mr Linky all ready to go on Thursday! Can’t wait to come visit you again!

I had so much fun today! Thank you for playing along with me! I met some new friends and saw the closets of some old ones–what more can a girl ask for? I haven’t even seen the closets of some of my IRL friends!

I think I had a grin on my face all day long. Except when I cried because Brielle spilled glaze all over the cabinets and mostly clean (up until that point) floor at 5:30 in the morning.

I love how we are all having so much in common and yet are so different. I love how I can learn so much from you. I love how you all have a sense of humor.

I love that you think I’m a cute pregnant lady–you’re delusional, but I love it anyway!

I loved visiting your homes today! I got the impression you want to do this again…If that’s so, I’d be willing. I do have the account with Mr. Linky after all. (Naughty Mr. Linky who was being rather difficult today, I hear)

How does next Thursday work for you? Or would you rather do it every other week? I promise to shorten the list–that would be daunting if we’re going to do this as a regular thing.

Let me know! I’ll be waiting.

Oh MAN!

I was seriously freaking out. My internet was down all morning! Can you believe it?

My first fest and I can’t even participate!!

I had my It’s Real Life post set to post itself automatically, (Thank Goodness I accidentally figured out how to do that) but I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to see you guys today.

Phew! I am back from our park morning/picnic and it is working again. I guess there were some problems w/ our internet server’s company three hours away.

So. Off to visit you! Can’t wait.

Although you’ll have to forgive me for showing up without a hostess gift.

I hope. Never having done this before, I used free tutorials at nearly two in the morning… That may not have been a good idea…

So on with the show–My Real Life

My fridge: I know the kitchen is supposed to look so much tidier without a bunch of magnets and whatnot on the refrigerator, but I just can’t seem to help it. We’ve got the girl’s toy magnets, alphabet magnets, the practice clock, our family magnets , our list of names for Baby C, the log for the summer reading program, a picture of K and me when we were dating, my check for one year’s salary as a mom he wrote me, the camera I want, some comics…The inside’s not too bad. I’m spoiled because I have a deep freeze in the basement and a second fridge on the front porch so I can buy in bulk and not have to worry about space.
Kevin and my closet: His laundry. Would you believe this house had no closets on the first floor until the 1960’s? This one Kevin’s grandparents put in as a present for his parents while they were on their honeymoon. It still has 100 year old wall paper high up, and it has a little cubbie door under the stairs for stowaways. Just kidding about the stowaways.
The kitchen sink: I don’t “do” Flylady, but her tip of “shine your sink” resonated with me, so I try to do that once a day.

The toilet: This house had no indoor bathroom until the 1950’s, so that door you see? It goes upstairs. It used to go into the kitchen, but now it’s in the bathroom. So when I have guests over for the first time, if I invite them to go upstairs (we have our TV up there), and then walk into the bathroom expecting them to follow, they get a little weirded out. Hmmm… Don’t enlarge this photo. We have rust in our water, plus I’ve only cleaned the toilet once since the cleaning lady quit.
My favorite shoes: Flip flops. I prefer to be barefoot actually, but these are the next best thing. This Target find has sparklys on them for dressier occasions. 🙂
My favorite room: My craft room. I scrap and make cards up here. I make hair bows. I read. I sew (kind of) The storage units you see were made by high schoolers in their woodworking class; several of us teachers commissioned them for only the price of materials! As you can see, I create here. I don’t clean. Really, I do clean, but only once the counter is too cluttered to do anymore.

My view from my favorite room. I love this south window. Even on the cloudiest day the natural light is the best in the house.
What my kids are doing right now: You can see Brielle and Aviana were both ‘helping’ me take pictures, but when I actually uploaded and worked on this post it was quiet time. Yes, Brielle is asleep, but does that freakish thing where her eyes are half open. It creeps me out too.
Do you like how she is “in” her room?
My laundry pile: My washer and dryer are right off the kitchen, next to the dishwasher if you are trying to get perspective. It’s convenient. The step stool is there too because if we don’t put it out of reach, Little Miss B will get into trouble. Which she manages without the aid of a step stool come to think of it.
Self portrait: I wanted it to be of my face, but also of Baby C. I like how this turned out.

So that’s my real life! At least for now… I hope we’ll do more of these to come!

I’m so looking forward to seeing yours–makes my voyeuristic little heart go pitter-pat!
